We had a final swim with Ragu today, then enjoyed breakfast together, before he had to set off to get the bus back to Colombo. He has made a huge effort to travel to Batticaloa and back, so we are very grateful to him for that, as is Daya, who went with him to the bus station. We walked to Kallady Bridge for the Sunday Market, only to find a tiny handful of stalls, so we weren't able to browse around the market for a while until Daya joined us, as there was nothing to see!

We decided to have a look at the church that was built to look like a whale, but it was already closed by the time we got there, so we took a tuk-tuk to the main market in Batticaloa, which was very interesting, and where we bought a couple of thin, white sheets to act as covers for our beds in Kurunegala. The heat was really intense today, so when Daya joined us we stopped for a drink at a tiny cafe, where we drank a large bottle of water and cups of tea.

Feeling much refreshed, we took a tuk-tuk to the 'Little Dubai' area of Batticaloa where we visited the most beautiful mosque. A mosque had stood there for more than 60 years, but this new one was only built 10 years ago, with funding from Saudi Arabia. The sheets we had bought earlier came in very handy, as I was wearing shorts, so I needed to cover up to be dressed appropriately to enter the mosque, where we received a lovely welcome from everyone there.

It was too hot to do much else than return to the Riviera Resort to relax. We had a drink, then Valerie went for a long swim with Daya, whilst I caught up at last with my blog and my diary, as I was starting to get a bit behind with them. It started to rain again this evening, so we had a drink at the bar, as we ordered some food for dinner - our last dinner with Daya before we head off back to Kurunegala tomorrow, after what has been a delightful 4 days here.

N.B. It's lovely to receive comments from you on my daily blogs, but even lovelier if you identify yourself, as I have a few very nice comments that remain anonymous, which is a shame.

Today's photographs show the course of the day, from our walk to the market on Kallady Bridge, to the church built to look like a whale, to the main market in Batticaloa, then on to the mosque in the 'Little Dubai' area of Batticaloa.
