It was back to school today, and we both thoroughly enjoyed our lesson observations in Grades 1 and 2, as well as co-teaching sessions, where we model good practice to the teachers. They are very receptive to this, and I am impressed with how the vast majority of them seem keen to develop their own practice, and do the best that they can for the children. One of the lessons I observed today was exceptionally good, and I told the teacher how impressed I was with it.

To support our lesson observations, we are then co-teaching a second lesson with the teacher in order to demonstrate in practice what we told them in the feedback after we watched them teach. I first started teaching more than 40 years ago, but I still get a buzz out of it, and today was no exception, as I set my Grade 1 students (7/8 year olds) a Maths challenge, and was delighted when the first child to solve it was so excited and asked if he could have another challenge!

I have spent quite a bit of time today trying to finalise our itinerary for our trip to the Hill Country in the second week of November, which has proved to be quite a tricky task. We have now agreed to visit all 5 Tea Leaf Centres, starting with Pussellawa, then Nuwara Eliya, then Udapussellawa, then Maskeliya, and finally Bogawantalawa. It is no mean feat to cover them all in a few days, but we believe it is the right thing to do, and I'm sure we'll enjoy it.

We finished at school fairly early this afternoon, so we appreciated being able to relax for a good length of time, including another swim at 18:30 before dinner at 20:00. I swam 20 lengths again today, but quite a bit quicker than I did yesterday, so I am improving my fitness levels a bit. I have kept my weight very steady, and only dropped a couple of kilos so far, but I will press on, as I am determined to get as close as I can to my target weight by my 67th birthday in March.

Today's photographs are from our lesson observations today, but not the co-teaching sessions, as we obviously cannot take photos of ourselves whilst we are teaching. There are also a couple of their 'busy bees' poster and a reading area.

  1. What a privilege for you to be doing some co-teaching, as well as monitoring...
