It's strange I know, but due to the political situation, after almost 3 weeks, I finally got to start my Rotary International Project work, with my first school visits to two Government Primary Schools. It was well worth the wait though, as you will see from the photos of first Hapugastenna T.V. School, and then Mousakellie No. 2 T.V. School. I had such a wonderful time at each of the schools. I loved it!
There were two teachers from each school who attended the first 6-month Training Programme (when I hadn't yet started the conversation initiative). That is 2 out of 7 teachers at the 170-pupil Hapugastenna School and 2 out of 6 teachers at the tiny 55-pupil Mousakellie No, 2 School, which has resulted in these 4 teachers having a significant impact on the teaching of English in their schools.
Hapugastenna School has created a beautiful learning environment for their pupils, and I was impressed with the English lessons I watched there (and at Mousakellie No. 2 School). The journey to Mousakellie was amazing! You can only go so far by tuk-tuk, and then you must trek downhill, across a 'dancing bridge' (a new safer one is under construction), then uphill on the other side through stunning scenery.
I could have written so much more about today, and there will be more detail in my diary, but I will let the photographs tell the story today, as I am determined to keep this blog short. Suffice to say, I got some wonderful evidence of the value of our Rotary International Project, and I even saw this delightful freshwater crab on the path as I walked back to the tuk-tuk to go back to Maskeliya.
Just a quick hi to you Keith 🙂
