I was up and out at 07:30 today, as breakfast was being served from 08:45 to 11:30, and I wanted to make the most of the morning sunshine before it got too hot. I walked to the end of Pedlar Street, and I sat on a wall by the sea to record a video message for my lovely granddaughter, Esther, who is 7 today. She doesn't have a phone yet, so I sent the video to her older sister, Isabella, who was 12 last month, and I then recorded a separate video for her, so she didn't feel left out!

Some shops were open around 08:30, so I did a little bit of shopping - mainly getting presents for people in Kurunegala who have been so kind to me over the past 4 weeks, but also a few for people back at home. I then went back for a lovely breakfast of a traditional Sri Lankan omelette, with a bit of toast, fresh fruit juice, and a nice hot coffee! The bed and breakfast option here at The Secret Garden is a very good deal, especially as you are in the heart of the old town.

After breakfast, I did some more exploring, as Ragu, Daya's brother wasn't due to arrive until around 16:00. I ended up having quite a late lunch of chicken tortillas, but almost as soon as I had finished the heavens opened, and it absolutely poured down. It was a good time to go back for a little siesta, because despite the rain, it was still extremely hot. I waited for the rain to stop and Ragu to arrive, which he did about 17:00 because of the heavy rain.

The rain had abated, but we still needed umbrellas to go out to enjoy the late afternoon/evening. It was surprisingly lovely walking around in the light rain, and we walked round by the sea for a while before coming back into the old town centre, eventually finding a good place to have our evening meal. By the time we had finished our meal, the rain had stopped completely, and it was the perfect temperature to enjoy the final bit of the day.

Today's photographs are just a little chronological record of my very relaxing day in Galle.

  1. For once you seem to be describing life in the slow lane! Glad to see you relaxing like a tourist (for a change). Back to school on Monday, I presume?
