Monday 9th February 2026

I was up very early and had breakfast at 07:30, ready for an 08:00 start with Lalanga in Grades 7 and 8 but then got a text message from him that I wouldn't be needed until 09:30, due to a morning general assembly and religious blessing programme, which had completely slipped his mind (even though it happens every Monday). I made good use of the extra time by visiting Chandika in his office to chat with him about a spreadsheet I wanted to produce!

I did meet up with Lalanga at 09:30 and spent just over 2 hours with him. He is the Sectional Head of Grades 7 and 8, and I have been tasked with supporting his development in terms of his leadership of that section of the school (which has 442 students aged 12,13, and 14). It's a significant responsibility, with a wide range of tasks to complete, and we went through them, discussing how he could run a weekly checklist of many of his key responsibilities.

For the second hour, I conducted a learning walk with Lalanga, where we looked at student absence and lateness and checked their conformity with uniform. We then did a second learning walk where we focused on the learning environment in his section, and there are just so many things that he could introduce for that to be improved. If I had a couple of terms working here, I could transform the entire section, but I only have limited time!

I went from Lalanga to a meeting with Priyani, the Sectional Head for Grades 5 and 6 (so the next youngest group of students). These students are housed on the top two floors of the Junior Department building that I am very familiar with, having worked there last year. After chatting with Priyani my hands were tied, as that was as far as my timetable went today, as a feedback meeting with Ravi, the Managing Director, had to be postponed as he had an urgent meeting to deal with.

Today's photographs were taken as I returned to my beautiful apartment around 14:30 and had a lovely afternoon nap, before taking a few snaps of the apartment to show you.
