I was delighted to work with the Trainee Teachers for a full day today, as I was keen to complete some of the work with them that I did with the Trainee Teachers at Tea Leaf Centre Nuwara Eliya. I will lose them again tomorrow, but fingers crossed, I will get them back for full days' training on Thursday and Friday. Although I won't be able to have as strong an impact as I did in Nuwara Eliya, I am hopeful that I will still make a significant difference to their performance as teachers.

There was an assembly outside on a lovely warm morning where the new intake of around 150 students was distributed to the 7 classes that they will learn in during the Intensive English Programme and for the rest of the Main Diploma. We then set up the Trainee Teachers room as a classroom, so that I could model some teaching with them, with them using role play situations to develop their teaching skills, and it proved to be a lot of fun today.

Lessons ended at 14:30, and soon after I was on my way into Maskeliya, as I was meeting Mr. Rizvi for a catch-up at Butterfly Mountain Guest House. For him, as a government schoolteacher, the new school year starts tomorrow, so this was the final day of his recent break. It was lovely to see him, and he travelled back in a tuk-tuk with me to Daya's place in Norwood, before returning to Maskeliya, and that may be the last I see of him on this visit.

I went for a walk from Daya's house to the river with Daya's brother, Rasi, and his 'nephew' Shan, where Rasi filmed a very short video of me offering well-wishes to Daya and Vino for their upcoming wedding. An album of videos is being created by a close friend of the family, and many people have been asked to contribute short videos towards that album. It was, of course, my pleasure to play a small part in that, and I was very grateful for Rasi's support.

Today's photographs show the morning assembly, my group of Trainee Teachers in their little classroom, the view from Butterfly Mountain Guest House, a nice one of Mr. Rizvi, and three of us down by the river where we filmed the video for the wedding celebrations.

  1. Beautiful photos. In particular the ones of the Assembly in the shade, and of Mr Rizvi who has featured in your blog over a number of years (was he the person Peter Hopwood conversed with?).
