As we all know, today is Valentine's Day, but it also happens to be my granddaughter, Esther's birthday today. She was 6 years old today, and although, of course, she doesn't have a mobile phone, her sister Isabella (now 11) does have one, so I sang Happy Birthday to her on Isabella's phone and left her a message to let her know that Granddad was thinking about her. My first Maths class today also sang Happy Birthday to her, and I sent that video to Isabella, too.
I caught up with Dinura, the Head Boy, again at break time this morning, which I greatly enjoyed. He is taller than me - about 6'4'', and not many Sri Lankan guys are, so I took a couple of photos with him to show you. Combining adolescence and 'A' Levels is a tricky time for any teenager, so it was good to have a catch-up with him, and we chatted about all sorts of things. He is a lovely lad, and it is very clear to me that he is a credit to the Royal International School.
I enjoyed teaching 3 Maths lessons today and checking in on the English in one of the Science lessons. They must be used to the intense heat, I think, as I struggle to teach in it, and I wonder how the staff and students manage with it. They have fans in the classrooms, which help a little bit, but when you are using worksheets or small bits of paper for resources (such as shapes in one of today's Maths lessons), it blows everything all over the place, which can be rather tricky.
I was glad to reach the weekend, although I don't have a great deal planned for it, which is fine, as I will simply be able to potter about - probably with a trip into Kurunegala town tomorrow - and certainly another swim, as I didn't get round to a swim today. My time here is drawing to a close, with just over two weeks left now, and I am going to make the most of these last few days, but I am also looking forward to returning home, with a possible trip out to Croatia awaiting me.
Today's photos show me with Dinura, plus a few from my Maths lessons and the Science lesson today, which involved a study of birds, including making one in groups, so I picked out the one that I thought was the best one for you!
Do they have seagulls in Sri Lanka, or is it an eagle? As for Dinura, he makes you look positively small!
