Sunday 12th January 2025

It was my granddaughter Isabella's 11th birthday today, so she was on my mind as I woke up today, and I sang 'Happy Birthday' to her, then wished her a lovely day on a voice message. I had breakfast with Isabelle before sorting out everything I needed over the next four days, as I will be away from Nuwara Eliya for a while. I ordered a tuk-tuk, which arrived at 10:45 to take me on the hour or so journey to Hatton, where Donald was meeting me.

Donald met me in Hatton, and his father came in his tuk-tuk to take me the rest of the way to their home on the Wanarajah Estate. It was lovely to be back there to see Donald's parents, and his sister, Yuprisha's, family too. We had a cup of tea, chatted, and then had lunch, which is always a great occasion at Donald's house because his mum puts on a good spread. Donald did a little video recording with me for one of his many projects, and his dad then drove me to Maskeliya.

I settled in at Daresh Home Stay in Maskeliya, which seems very pleasant, and another tuk-tuk driver then picked me up to take me to Daya's house in Norwood, where we were having a belated birthday celebration for him and his brother, Rasi, who was born on Daya's sixth birthday. Daya's home is a work in progress at the moment, as they are extending it to give them some extra space, as well as reconfiguring a couple of the bedrooms to make them more private.

We had a great time together, with family, friends and neighbours joining in the celebrations. Ragu had constructed a lovely frame outside with fairy lights, and a big illuminated 'Happy Birthday' sign. He is very creative, and had obviously gone to a lot of trouble to make this birthday celebration memorable. These brothers have been through tough times over the past 5 years that I have known them, and it was great to share the love that shone through them tonight.

Today's photos are from the lovely lunch that I had at Donald's home, and the great birthday celebrations during a lovely evening at Daya's home.
