We have had a problem with our visa extensions, which I applied for online last Wednesday, with a confirmation email that said I should get an email within 3 working days regarding the next step. This next step is supposed to be the payment of the visa extensions, and them then being emailed to us. As a week has now passed by, and I have not heard anything, someone from school investigated this for me, and a driver is now being sent to Colombo tomorrow with our passports.
I was relieved to get the passport situation sorted out, although I still don't really know why they hadn't emailed me back (something about the system being down!). I then had a busy time teaching today, with two 80-minute Maths sessions almost back-to-back, which left me quite exhausted in this heat, as I always give 100% to my teaching commitment here, mainly because it is genuinely such fun being back in the classroom doing Maths with the students.
I always did love teaching Maths. At primary level, Literacy and Numeracy were always the basis of our education system, and I was lucky because I loved teaching both English and Maths. Once school was over, we got back to the apartment quite early only to find that the IT team, who were supposed to have come to take a router away that wasn't working had, in fact, taken away the one that was working, and left the broken one, which, as you can imagine, was a bit frustrating.
It was even more frustrating when some maintenance team guys came round to sort out a minor leak in our washroom, but left leaving a major flood! In the process of repairing the minor leak, they managed to burst a pipe below the floor, so that when they left there was soon water everywhere! Having called the maintenance guys back in, it was clearly a much bigger job than they could manage there and then, so they had to turn the water off, and will fix it whilst we are away.
Today's photographs are again courtesy of Valerie, and are of a little fundraising event in the enormous school grounds today, plus one of her Maths lesson today.
What vibrant colours in each photo. Looking forward to one of Valerie teaching - her pupils are certainly head down...
