Tuesday 5th November 2024
I woke up this morning thinking: 'Remember, remember! The fifth of November, the Gunpowder treason and plot; I know of no reason why the Gunpowder treason should ever be forgot!' I also thought how ironic that millions of Americans are voting for their next President today, and I make no secret of who I would like her to be, as the alternative would be as calamitous in my opinion, as if Guy Fawkes had been successful in blowing up the Houses of Parliament in 1605!
We may have to wait a long time yet to find the outcome of the election in the USA, but here in Sri Lanka, on a beautiful sunny morning, we headed into school, where we were able to catch up on various bits of work today, including, for me, a Grade 3 Maths lesson observation that I very much enjoyed. We are reaching the end of these now, as everyone is moving into a time of revision for the upcoming end of year tests across the whole school.
There were close on 170 Government School Principals from across the region being hosted by the Royal International School today, which I believe is a huge recognition of how well it has been doing, and it was interesting to see these scores of visitors being shown round the school. I popped into the Conference Room downstairs to hear Sandra Wanduragala address the Principals, and even though it was all in Sinhala, it was clearly a rousing speech.
Sandra popped round to see us this evening, as she has done a few times now, and we are very appreciative that a woman as incredibly busy as she clearly is, takes time to pop in for a chat. We talk about all sorts of things, but particularly focus on what has been happening at school. The school is an amazing legacy for a woman who has worked tirelessly to make a great personal contribution to this city, first as a lawyer, and then as a business entrepreneur and educationalist.
Today's photos are again taken by Valerie, who ventured up to the top floor of the Junior School building at the end of the school day and captured some rather lovely shots.
