It was the final day back in school this week, and I thought it would be more of the same, but I was in for a pleasant surprise. Firstly, Sandra popped in to ask me to download a Forest School proposal and develop it for her. Then Lalanga, who has overall responsibility for the curriculum in the Junior School, asked me to go through some Maths test papers with him, so my day immediately got to be a lot more interesting, and I really enjoyed it so much more.
Having gone through the Maths test papers with Lalanga, we had a brief meeting with two key people in Grades 5 and 6, then a further meeting with Dinushka, who has been our key link person in the Junior School, and has been a delight to work with. We completed all our work by just after lunchtime, and made a quick getaway back to our apartment, as there was heavy rainfall brewing, and we wanted to avoid getting soaked on the way back home.
We also wanted to do a bit of shopping in Kurunegala this afternoon, so we ended up having to set off in the pouring rain, but fortunately we bumped into Agatha's husband, Yohan, who gave us a lift into town, dropping us off at No Limit, a huge department store. It is an unusual experience shopping here, and a young man accompanied us around the store, helping us to look for items, and carrying them all for us, before taking us to the till to pay for them.
We got a tuk-tuk back home, stopping off on the way to buy some fresh milk for breakfast tomorrow (we had actually purchased a box of cornflakes a while back!). We had our usual dinner at Razeena's around 19:30, then I tried to catch up on some paperwork for Tea Leaf Trust (in my role as Volunteer Coordinator), but the Internet was not working well, as it is getting towards the end of the month, and the package they subscribe to runs out by then.
Today's photographs show views of Kurunegala during our shopping trip this afternoon, some lovely views from our apartment after the rain had finished, and a couple of my good friend Kumaravel Ragu, whom I was pleased to find has been awarded a Diploma recently.
