It was more of the same today at school, with lesson observations and co-teaching sessions for both of us, and although that might sound a bit boring, it really isn't. It's a privilege to be observing the teachers here, and the same goes for having the opportunity to co-teach with them. I first started teaching well over 40 years ago, so what better way to relive my youth - a 66-year-old grandfather getting down with the kids is just the ticket, I think.
Having said what fun it is, I have to say that it can get a bit tiring in this heat, and it's the humidity that's the most energy sapping. Valerie's health is much better, but the constant change in temperature, from being in the intense heat and humidity to working in an air-conditioned office, is not helping her skin, although it isn't as bad as it was. She is still taking the ayervedic medicine that Radha prescribed for her, and it does seem to have helped somewhat.
Sandra arranged to join us for dinner at Razeena's this evening, with her Australian friend, Jan, who is here for a couple of weeks. They arrived quite early, so we had a good chat on the veranda, and then in the apartment - mainly about school to begin with, but we then ended up chatting about all sorts of things. It was lovely to have their company, and particular nice to have dinner at Razeena's together, as she served up the most delicious meal for us.
As we parted after dinner, we then had to sort ourselves out for our trip tomorrow. We are working at school from 07:30 until 12:00, when Nilanga is picking us up to take us on the long drive to Batticaloa, where we will spend 4 nights with my very good friend, Daya, and his brothers, Ragu and Rasi. Daya is currently working in Batticaloa, and I have never been there before, so we are looking on it as a long weekend adventure, which I'm sure we'll enjoy.
Today's photographs are of our lesson observations, one of 'our' lovely secretary Nimali (not our personal secretary, but she is the lady who sits outside our office, and seems to attend to our every need), plus some great photos of the wonderful children here at the end of the school day.
