We could get used to this 4-day weekend scenario, as after a lovely 2-day break at 'Sunbird', we returned to Kurunegala this morning, with a whole weekend left to relax in. We are being looked after so well here, and we are so grateful to Sandra, and everyone around her, who are all making our time so special here. I knew that we would have a good time in Kurunegala, but I don't think I fully appreciated just how good it would be, thanks to everyone's generosity towards us.

On the way back today, just as we arrived back in Kurunegala, we parked up by a street trader who was selling king coconuts, jackfruit, and wood apples. I have had king coconuts before, but Valerie hadn't, so we chose a couple, and they were cut open so that we could drink the coconut juice, which is very refreshing. Valerie has yet to try jackfruit, but we have had some wood apple juice, and some wood apple jam, which we both really enjoyed.

We just relaxed for the remainder of the day - chilling out on the veranda to begin with, then later on, I went inside to spend quite some time editing an academic study for someone. It was an interesting study on Forest Schools, so I enjoyed reading it, and found it a pleasure to edit, as I had edited that level of academic work for 5 years when I first retired and supported my blind friend, Basir, at Bath Spa University, then my Kurdish friend, Khalil, from Syria.

I think it's hard for both of us - and especially for Valerie - to believe that we are thousands of miles away in Sri Lanka. It doesn't seem real in some ways, and it certainly doesn't seem like only 2 weeks since we arrived. We seem to have fitted so much into the time already, largely due to the fact that we are being so well looked after, and that gives us more down time after working in school, although the 'work' has not felt like the work we used to do at school in the UK.

Today's photos are minimal, as we didn't do a lot today! There are three photos of our king coconut experience by the roadside, then a lovely one Valerie took of my standing on the veranda of the lovely apartment we are staying in.
