Waking up today at 'Sunbird' was simply delightful, and I think it has been particularly good for Valerie's health, as she seems to have been recuperating very well here. It's a very small pool, but still very relaxing and refreshing, and good to be able to spend time chilling out with Sandra's lovely family, not least her beautiful granddaughter, Maya, who was born just 3 days after our granddaughter Esther, and reminds us a great deal of her, with her exuberant personality.
There is not much to report on with days like this, as not doing a great deal is pretty much the order of the day, and the reason these couple of days away have been so enjoyable. We have almost fallen back into a pattern now of working weekdays and relaxing at the weekends, but this has been a very short working week due to Thursday's Poya Day, so we have had the luxury of a 4-day break until we go back to work at the Royal International School next Monday.
I did have to squeeze in an online meeting this afternoon, as we are applying for a Global Grant to fund the new Rotary Project which supports a 6-month English Programme for teachers of English in Government Schools. It went on for a good hour, and I had forgotten to turn the air conditioning on in our room (which is where I escaped for the meeting), so I was quite overcome with the heat and the humidity by the time we got to the end of the meeting.
A dip in the pool soon had me chilled out again, and we were in party mode this evening, with a barbecue, a huge birthday cake (with the Sri Lankan tradition of feeding each other when you cut it - like we have with the bride and groom at weddings), and Selyna's favourite karaoke machine! It is a privilege to have been included in this family gathering, and we have both been touched by Sandra's generosity in bringing us to this lovely place to share her and Ravi's birthdays.
Today's photograph's are pretty self-explanatory, and I particularly like the ones of the sunset over the Indian Ocean that Valerie took this evening.
Amazing sunsets - so beautiful .
