I am having a very unusual 'normal' pattern to my working schedule this week, as this is the third day running that I have gone to Tea Leaf Centre Nanu Oya, and I have been asked to finish the week off here too, so I will be here again tomorrow and Friday. I had another lovely day here, catching up on some paperwork, including writing a Case Study for the twin lads I have been able to offer some financial support to.

I was able to take part in the activity class again this afternoon, working with Orien as I did yesterday. We played a word game to try to develop their English-speaking skills. Each student was given a word on a slip of paper that they then had to describe to the rest of the group without using the word itself. Most of the students managed this fairly successfully, with one of the female students doing exceptionally well.

I returned home to Blackpool and had a chat to Yad about next week, as she wants me to go to Maskeliya for 3 days, and then Bogawantalawa for 2 days, returning to Blackpool on Saturday. I am very happy to have a week away, as it will give me an opportunity to work with people that I have not seen very much of so far. I will also be able to catch up with a couple of people that I have got to know in Maskeliya.

I decided to visit Blackpool Hotel, which is not far from where I am staying, just a short 25-minute walk away. It is a lovely hotel with an amazing panoramic view from the hotel's bar, and I stayed for dinner. As I am on my own here in Sri Lanka, it is quite often a 'table for one', whereas today it was 'a whole restaurant for one', a sad reflection on how long it is taking for Sri Lanka to recover form Covid19 and the collapse of the Sri Lankan economy.

Today's photos were taken as I walked to Blackpool Hotel (passing Ye Olde Blackpool Shoppe, which amused me). I loved the hotel's beautiful limousine - to be used by its valued customers. The photos from the hotel's bar are particularly nice.

  1. How ironic that the hotel limousine should be called 'Princess of Little England'. Does this demonstrate a general reluctance to cover up the colonial past, e.g. by not changing english place names into singhalese names, I wonder?
