It has been a real struggle to keep up with my blog and my diary whilst I have been here in Maskeliya, as I have been so busy. I have gone from spending 7 weeks here last year, to just 3 days this year, and it simply isn't enough time to get everything done. 7 weeks was interminably long, but 3 days is simply the reverse! I am doing my absolute best, but there is no way I can complete all I have been asked to do!
I completed four lesson observations this morning, and I then spent 90 minutes looking at a Teachers Knowledge Test Unit on Phonology with the Advanced Diploma students this afternoon - a lovely group of 20 ladies, 15 of which were here today (an advance of 2 on yesterday!). Trying to go through the 44 phonemes in the English language was a stretch even for me with my background!
I have to admit I have loved being back in Maskeliya, and I am enjoying staying at the Riverside, where I stayed when I first came to Maskeliya in 2019. Nilanga, the son of the family, who runs the business, is now married to Radha, and is the same delightful young man I first met 4 years ago. Significant improvements have been made to the accommodation here, with an additional 'deluxe' room being added at the moment.
Mr. Rizvi and his lovely family met me after school, and it was lovely to see them. We went for a short walk and then his wife, Safna, and children, Abdullah and Mahdi went home, whilst Mr. Rizvi and I popped into Maskeliya for some cheese kotthu, which didn't appear to have any cheese in it, but did have lots of chicken! By the time I got home, I was exhausted, and in no mood to do my blog, which is why it is a day late arriving!
Today's photos show the school in action (with some taken in lesson observations), plus a photo of Mr. Rizvi's family without me - and with me! The final photo is a rather beautiful one of the sun setting over Sri Pada (Adam's Peak) as I walked back from Maskeliya.
Not sure how you are managing to fit everything in, Keith. So pleased you’ve been able to spend time with Mr R and his family.
