We watched the sunrise this morning (pictures shared yesterday), and we enjoyed a lovely breakfast on the veranda before heading off for the day with Rathnayake, our tuk-tuk guide who dropped us at Sunburst View in his tuk- tuk last night. We discussed with him where we wanted to go and headed off for our first visit of the day to Halpewatte Tea Factory, which was certainly an entertaining start to the day.
The second stop on our tour was the Nine Arch Bridge. a quite spectacular construction, which we spent some time admiring before moving on to our third stop, and what was my highlight of the day - Little Adam's Peak. At 1,141 metres tall (3,743 feet) it is just a bit higher than Mount Snowdon (1,085 metres - 3,560 feet). It is much easier to climb, of course, as you start at a much higher level, and when you get to the top the views are just outstanding.
Our fourth and final stop was to see the Ella waterfalls, which were quite magnificent. I found the monkeys very entertaining, although you do need to watch them, as they will pinch anything! We had set off at 10:00 and got back around 18:00, so it was a pretty full-on day, but we had managed to pack in a lot. There was just time for a quick cup of tea and a nice hot shower before heading out for the evening.
We ate at a wonderful restaurant called UFO, named after its beautifully creative design. It was very relaxing, the food was great, and the staff were lovely. After dinner, we had a stroll around the town, which is very much geared up for tourists, but in a very pleasant sort of way, and then we got a tuk-tuk back to Sunrise View, where we both crashed out in our rooms straight away we were so tired.
Today's photos are simply a selection of the many that I took today. I have tried to whittle them down to a few highlights, but there are still 20 photos - the most I have put in one day's blog, but I am sure you can skim through them very quickly. (Picture 9 is looking back at Halpewatte Tea Factory - an enormous building that I have still had to zoom in a lot for you to see it - where we started our tour, from the top of Little Adam's Peak).
What a day's outing, Keith - enough to whet any tourist's appetite for Sri Lanka!
