It was back to normal today - if there is any semblance of normality in what I do here. Part of the appeal for me is that there is no 'normal', in that one day is completely different from the previous one, and tomorrow will be completely different again. The 'normality' of today was being back at Tea Leaf Centre Nanu Oya, although it was an Activity Day, so it was still different from 'normal' days, as I will explain.

Today was an Activity Day in each of the four Tea Leaf Centres (Maskeliya, Nanu Oya, Palmerston, and Bogawantalawa - soon to be joined by a fifth Tea Leaf Centre at Udapusselawa). It is a fun day of activities for the students before the serious work of the Main Diploma begins tomorrow. The students have a relaxed day where they can really bond together as a group of students.

For the Activity Day, the students are split into teams and then compete against each other in what we would recognise as party games. The emphasis is on having fun, which they certainly do, but the underlying objective is to ensure that they get to know each other better, start to work co-operatively with one another, and are well-prepared for tackling the serious stuff tomorrow morning.

Jesmin was working in school today, which was lovely, and I was able to share two lots of key resources with her, which I hope will be of great benefit to the work of Tea Leaf Trust in the future. I travelled back in a tuk-tuk with Jesmin to the Bus Station in Nuwara Eliya, where she caught a bus home to Kandapola, and I did some shopping before heading off for a break at The Grand Hotel.

Today's photographs are all of the Activity Day.

  1. Keith, it must be gratifying for you to witness the start of another diploma course - evidence that the TLT vision is continuing to evolve.
