Sunday 22nd January 2023
Sunday was a very relaxing day. I got up quite late and got on with some washing, which takes a bit longer when you are using a twin-tub washing machine, although I found that rather relaxing today. Maybe it's just the novelty of having to complete an everyday task in a way that my grandparents probably did. It might be an old-fashioned way of washing your clothes, but it certainly seems to get the job done very well.
The drying facilities are limited here, as a long washing line which came down, has not been replaced, so there is limited space to hang out your clothes. This was a shame today, as it was a fairly warm day outside, with a good breeze, so I did the best I could - bunching them up on the bit of line there is - and bringing them in as soon as they were dry enough to iron. I got it all done before I went into town in the afternoon.
I pottered around town for a while, with Daya joining me later to go the cinema again - my second time since I got here. We watched the second of the films that were showing last time we went, and I much preferred this one. We went in at 17:00 and came out at 20:00, which shows you how long the film was. Even with a break in the middle of the film, that was still quite an epic of a film to sit through.
We went to The Grand Hotel for a pizza afterwards, as that is always a great option here. They have a good variety of pizzas, at reasonable prices, but we just shared one between us and had a beer each. Kamal was on duty and served us, which was very nice. It is a very atmospheric place to be at night, and we enjoyed having a good chat over our meal before getting a tuk-tuk back to Blackpool.
Today's photos give another nostalgic view of the twin-tub washing machine, plus a couple of the atmospheric ambience of The Grand Hotel after dark.
What a contrast between the utilitarian (the twin tub) and the luxurious (the hotel decor)!
