I am aware that my blog is not that exciting - and the number of viewers is dropping off quite dramatically - but you will appreciate that I am not living a very dynamic, exotic lifestyle out here, and some days are quite mundane and routine. Getting on with my washing or going shopping hardly cuts it as an adventure, and today was no exception to that, so today I am going to tell you about two fantastic donations.

I had a generous donation through a member of Bathavon Rotary Club of £100, which I have been asked to use out here for a worthy cause. I was so impressed with the Thai Pongal celebrations in Daya's community (which cost around 200,000 LKR) that I have started up a Thai Pongal 2024 Account with the local committee that organises this and contributed 50,000 (just over £100) to kick start their next celebration - benefitting around 500 people.

The sister of a very close friend in Germany who died in May 2020 transferred £170 into my account for me to support another worthy cause, and after discussions with Yad today, I have decided to use that money to support twin boys who have one of the most disturbing family stories that I have encountered. This money equates to around 80,000 LKR and will pay for some of their basic needs (bus fare, clothes, schoolbooks) over this year.

As well as these two sums of money, I brought out gifts from someone else in Rotary to give to a specific family they have been in touch with. If anyone wants to donate any money to the work out here, I am happy to be the middleman for that, but if you give to Tea Leaf Trust directly they will be able to claim the Gift Aid of 25% on your donation, which means your money would go a lot further that way.

Today's photos show where I went shopping today, my continued obsession with old fashioned washing machines (I priced up the cost of a new one), and some vintage cars that appeared at an event at The Grand Hotel (there were 12 vintage cars, but I am afraid that I only captured 5 of them!)

  1. Good to hear about the uses to which the donations have been put. The classic cars would no doubt be well received at the RC of Bath's annual vintage car rally! Is Val happy about you bringing the twin tub home with you?!
