Friday 1st July 2022
It was another early start today - my last day in school - so I had breakfast with Daya at 07:30 and then we headed off to Blackpool Junction to catch the bus to Nanuoya. It was a bright, sunny morning, such a contrast to yesterday, and that bit of sunshine made all the difference. There were only a few students in today who helped when Sutharshan arrived to sort out some new computers.
I stayed until about 14:00, but there was nothing much left to do then, and I wanted to go into Nuwara Eliya to sort out a gift for Jana and Yad, so I walked towards Nanuoya and managed to pick up a tuk-tuk, which took me back to Blackpool Cemetery first to pick something up, and we then headed off to Nuwara Eliya, where I did a little bit of shopping before going to The Grand Hotel.
I sat and had a drink at The Grand Hotel, whilst finishing off writing a pile of thank you cards for people. Daya arrived later for tea and cake - a goodbye treat, amongst so many goodbyes at the moment. This is the week of the long goodbyes, and it does feel a little sad, but I am hoping it will be more of a French 'au revoir', as I certainly hope to be back again at some point in the future.
Daya and I took a tuk-tuk back to Blackpool Cemetery, where the house was shrouded in darkness, as it was that time of day again - power cut time! Jana and Yad arrived back just as the power came back on. It seemed the right moment to share presents, so we did that first, and then we had a rather good meal with a few drinks. I will have to start thinking about packing up my things tomorrow!
You treat your TLV colleagues so generously with cake and gifts, they must sense your affection for them! They will presumably look back on their experience of Mr Keith as one of friendship tinged with gratitude for all the professional help he has given them.
