It was a fun day today as three of the Central Team arrived in Maskeliya - Yadharshini, Jesmin and Tharika - partly to meet staff in person who they have never met, but mainly to discuss a new concept that ought never need to be discussed - 'Food Security'. Basically, this is about Tea Leaf Vision needing to shift its focus, at least temporarily, to ensuring staff, students, and their families have enough to eat.

All Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) are now being urged to consider 'Food Security' as a key element of their work, with the government warning people that they may have to only eat two meals a day soon, although, as Yadharshini pointed out, we are not just talking about the number of meals a day here, but the quality of those meals too, which is actually far more relevant than the number.

Despite having to talk about such serious issues, it was still a light-hearted day, as you will see from today's photographs, and I very much enjoyed the atmosphere in school today. Yadharshini, Jesmin, and Tharika were all on good form, and they managed to lift everyone's spirits with their visit, which is no mean feat in these most difficult of times for them as a country. It was quite humbling to witness.

In the late afternoon/early evening I took tea with Mr. Rizvi and his son Mahdhi - a long story, with not enough space to cover in my blog! We had a very good chat and I will try to see him once more before I leave Maskeliya, which I can now tell you will be this coming Sunday morning. There will be more on that story in future blogs, but I am thrilled to be going home to Nuwara Eliya after 7 long weeks here!

Please find below an article that Tim Westbrook brought to my attention, which ties in very well with the new concept of 'Food Security' the Central Team brought with them today.
