Donald and Ladushan asked me for my help today with getting everything ready for the reopening ceremony that they are having on Saturday, so I was up and out quite early. I walked to Blackpool Junction and waited a while for a bus to Nuwara Eliya, but in the end I just gave up, as I didn't want to be late, and flagged down a passing tuk-tuk, which is still a very cheap way for me to get into town.

There was still a lot of sorting out to do at GROW, and I ended up spending most of the day there, and agreeing to go back tomorrow morning - and, of course, again for the reopening ceremony on Saturday, which I am looking forward to. It is great to see these two young men who came up through Tea Leaf Vision moving on to start up their own business and making such a success of it.

Kawya and Niranjani have been asked to conduct the proceedings, so I worked with them on their script and their delivery of it which went very well. You must remember that the whole thing is going to be in English, which isn't of course, their native language. I am very impressed that they have the confidence to be master of ceremonies in what is a foreign language to them, which would be beyond me!

I also helped two students who are delivering speeches in English - Jennifer on the impact that the course at GROW has had on her life, and Princiya on the value of education in general, and learning English in particular. Not only have these two students written their speeches in English, but they have also both memorised them, and weren't reading their scripts when I practised with them!

  1. What promise this re-opening represents for a country which has been brought to its knees by incompetent governance - and how encouraging for the business to have your fulsome support!
