Sunday 12th June 2022
It was time to move on today, and I said my goodbyes to Ananda, Lasanthi, Yehani, Chamod, Maii, and Ahinsa, with a last couple of photographs in front of Pradeep's tuk-tuk, which was taking me as far as Hatton, where Chan and his wife, Kanishiya, met me to pass on some reports for Ms. Selveraj. Having arrived quite early I had a cup of tea whilst I waited for Reggie to arrive in his car.
I have provided a photograph of my view out of the 'hotel' where I had a cup of tea, as I am always amused that Sri Lankan people refer to them as hotels. Mr. Rizvi always called them hotels, and they are about as far removed from what we would think of as a hotel as you can possibly imagine! I still got a nice cup of tea though, and I was able to wait in comfort for Reggie to arrive.
It was lovely to see Reggie after so long, and to begin with I thought he had got a new car, but he had just thoroughly cleaned the old one - to the point where it was unrecognisable from the one that brought me from Colombo to Nuwara Eliya on Sunday 16th April! I double-checked that he knew we were going to Yad's house and not to Kandapola to see Sutharshan and Jesmin.
We stopped off at Devon Falls on the way for a tea-break, but the 'hotel' was closed, so I just got us a couple of ice-creams from a little wagon that was there. I nodded off in the car I was so tired, and before I knew it, we had arrived at Yad's house in Blackpool, where I got a lovely warm welcome from Yad, her husband Janathan and her lovely mother Meena. It felt like I had come home at last!
