It was lovely to wake up in Blackpool this morning, having had a very comfortable night's sleep. I was up and off quite early, as I was going to visit Donald and Ladushan at the new premises of their company Grow. After only one year in their current premises, their landlord would not continue their lease, but quite amazingly they found better premises right next door at a cheaper rent!

I do love this Blackpool area of Nuwara Eliya - it is so beautiful - and I took a good photo of it on my way to Nuwara Eliya. I was going to walk to the Nanuoya junction and take the bus, but as I got to the junction a tuk-tuk pulled up and asked if I needed a lift, so I got one for 500LKR (about around £1:25 - such extravagance!), whereas I got the bus back later and that only cost me 50LKR (around 13p).

I met Donald and Ladushan at their old premises, then we went to have a look round the new ones. I only took photos outside today, as they still have a lot to do before the reopening ceremony on Saturday. They have asked me to make a little speech, so I told them I would be delighted to, as I have helped them quite a lot over the past two years with various applications and I am delighted with their success.

I spent the morning helping the two ladies who will be the Masters (Mistresses?) of Ceremonies on Saturday, getting their 'script' in order, and then a good hour or so with another two ladies who will be presenting little speeches on the day - one on the value of education, and the other on the impact that the English course she took at Grow has had on her life! More on this on Saturday!

  1. The idea that a beautiful corner of colonial Ceylon should be named after an English seaside resort of contemporary relevance is oddly connecting - Blackpool has been in the UK news lately because of an unguarded dismissive and inappropriate comment made about 'godawful places like Blackpool and Birmingham' by a (post-colonial) Tory Cabinet minister!
