Today was a lovely rest day and I spent most of the morning at home relaxing and doing 'domestics' like hanging out my washing! I was having a trip out to Norwood in the afternoon, which necessitated my first trip on a bus this time out in Sri Lanka. I got a tuk-tuk into Maskeliya town and got on the Hatton bus, which stops at Norwood. I had forgotten what bus trips in Sri Lanka are like - let me enlighten you!
Having got on the bus, I paid my 70LKR (around 18p!) fare for the 30-minute ride to Norwood, which is almost 100% downhill, with twists and turns all the way! Sri Lankan buses are not built for comfort, and lack any suspension, so you are treated to a thrilling roller-coaster ride that leaves you feeling exhausted by the time you reach your destination. It is quite an experience and not for the faint-hearted!
I had a lovely afternoon with my great friend Kumaravel Dayaneethibabu (great name isn't it). We went for a beautiful walk from his house, which is the end one of a group of line houses, that were the original homes built for tea plantation workers. Today's photographs don't really seem to me to do it justice, as it really is quite stunning scenery, and exceptionally serene. It was a very special time for me!
For any Rotarians who were wondering how my very good friend Charles Hayward and I have moved on since our joint chairing of the Community and International Committee, all is revealed in the link below, which I received courtesy of my wife this evening. I think we have both been very enterprising, and I will be chatting to Charles about developing online sales for any ladies who might be interested!
I always knew you were a fashionista at heart Dad 😂😂😂
ReplyDeleteAs Keith's trusted business partner and friend, with reference to the 2013 article in the Sri Lankan Sunday Times I can only add that we are planning a store opening on New Bond Street in Bath sometime this autumn, after Keith returns to the UK with samples of the latest accessories on display in our Columbo outlet. You can expect the event to attract national press coverage over here and in Sri Lanka (where our products still enjoy a first class reputation)!
