My main reason for going to Maskeliya again today was to visit government schools in order to promote the Rotary International Project, which is aimed at improving the standard of English teaching in government schools, both primary and secondary. I was visiting the schools with Mr. Gobinath – Gobi for short – and we set off in a tuk-tuk around 11.00, which gave us time to visit 4 local schools before the end of the school day.

English lessons are a mandatory part of the curriculum in primary and secondary schools here, but many English teachers speak very little English and some of them none at all. It was no great surprise, therefore, that there was a great deal of interest in the English course we were promoting.

I got on very well with Gobi and I felt we worked together very well as a team, promoting what I think could prove to be a great initiative in this area. I was very surprised when he invited me to come to his wedding, which will be later on this month in the Wedding Hall, where we held the Speech Conference. It is a Hindu wedding and there will be around 1,000 guests, so it should be rather amazing! I have never been to a Hindu wedding before, so I feel very honoured to go and very excited about it!

Today's photographs were taken at the first school we visited today. I have also included a couple of photographs of my invitation to his wedding.
