Today was the Graduation Ceremony for the students who have attended the 3-month Social Skills Programme that Tea Leaf
Vision has just completed in Nuwara Eliya. It was a very colourful event, as
the male students (only 3 of them) wore smart suits and all the female students were dressed in
beautiful saris. It was a privilege to attend this award ceremony. I loved
the positive atmosphere of this event, which was a celebration of the work Tea
Leaf Vision does to not only improve students’ basic levels of English, but
also develop life skills that benefit them socially and prepare them for the
workplace.
After the Graduation Ceremony was over, I walked to The Grand Hotel,
where I had a bit of lunch and then settled down to watch the Rugby World Cup
Final between England and South Africa. South Africa proved too strong for
England and beat them convincingly 32-12. I was disappointed, of course, but
South Africa were clearly the better team today and deserved their win. Back at home I said a very fond
farewell to Rachelle, as I am going to be up at 05.00 tomorrow morning in order
to get the 06.00 bus to Kandy!
Today's photos are all from the the Graduation Ceremony, apart from the last photograph, which shows a very thoughtful commiseration offering from The Grand Hotel for England's sad defeat at the hands of South Africa! It says 'We Are England', signifying their oneness with me in my disappointment!
