After 5 pretty hectic days, today was a much more relaxing one! It felt
so nice to wake up in my lovely apartment in Nuwara Eliya (or ‘home’ as I call
it now) this morning. I popped in to see the Management Team first thing and
then popped next door to see the AMMA ladies, but I then worked from home for
the rest of the day. This was partly so I could do a massive wash. Another
disadvantage of travelling on Sri Lankan buses is that you physically get
filthy and your clothes get filthy too. I have showered twice since I got back,
and I am only just beginning to feel clean again! My clothes took some
scrubbing today, especially as I only have my 1950s style twin-tub washing
machine to do the job!
I did pop into town to do a bit of food shopping as well in the
afternoon and had a lovely hot chocolate at The Grand Hotel (a little bit of
‘western’ luxury from time to time really helps out here). My lovely waiter
friend Sajeevan looked incredibly dapper today and, of course, I wondered why!
Apparently, the Sri Lankan President was at The Grand Hotel today, but he left
before I got here, which I did feel was rather remiss of him! I would have
loved to have been a fly on the wall here just to see all the fuss, although
there were probably armed guards all over the place this morning, so I might
not even have been allowed in!
Today's photos show my 'home' in Nuwara Eliya, the view from the side of it and the view along the lane as I leave the house each day (very basic rubbish bins on the right).
