What a long day this seemed to be! Tim and Liz picked me up just after 09.00 and we were driven to Colombo, which took us 6 hours. Tim had to renew his Driving Permit and collect a hire care before we then left Colombo around 16.30, travelling on to Tangalle, where we arrived around 19.30. After 9 hours in two cars, it was a relief to finally get to our destination, which was Tim and Liz’s friend Raelene’s house just outside of Tangalle.
What a beautiful destination it was
too! Raelene has the most beautiful home, where we were treated to a fabulous
evening meal, prepared by Gamigay, whose son Tharu helped him to clear up
afterwards. Raelene was a great host and, because she is an artist, her gorgeous
home is full of her own paintings, any one of which I would happily put up in
our apartment in Bath!
Tim and Liz are staying with
Raelene and booked me into a local, very reasonably priced small hotel
called the Goyambokka Guesthouse, where Tim drove me after we finished our
evening meal. It seems a delightful place to stay, but I arrived in the dark
and so, although my room is lovely, I will have to wait until the morning to
see what it is like outside and how close I am to the beautiful Indian Ocean!
ReplyDeleteHi Keith,
Been following your reports with interest.
I happen to have been born in Colombo on the 6th June 1934, my father having been sent out in the Colonial Service where he became the manager of the Railway Carriage Workshop.
Do n't remember much about it!!
Regards,
Mike
Hi Mike. My Blog was obviously intended for family and friends, so I am very interested to find that I have a couple of 'random' followers like yourself. My wife's father was also born in June 1934 (on 11th, but not in Colombo though)! Very nice to hear from you and I am glad you are enjoying my Blog. How did you come across it? Keith
