Sunday 13th October 2019
It was a very pleasant morning weather-wise, so I decided to go to Victoria Park at last! I had walked round for a little
while on my own when I came across Tony, who has been a gardener there for
nearly 20 years and he took me to places that I
might not have gone on my own and also told me a lot about the flowers and shrubs,
which certainly made my visit a lot more interesting than it might have been. I also met a female Buddhist monk called Upksha on my way round, and I chatted to her
and took her photograph. I had never come across a female Buddhist monk before and she told me that their numbers were capped nationally at 3,000, so you are
much less likely to come across them.
I left Victoria Park and went to
get my hair cut by Kappa (who cuts Tim Pare’s hair when he is around). I had a
very long wait, but it was an enjoyable experience that includes a head massage
(and all for 170 Sri Lankan Rupees, which is less than £1!).
I had a very nice lunch at The Grand Hotel and they decided to let me watch the World Cup Rugby in one of the
Guest Rooms that wasn’t being used, so I was delighted to be able to see Japan
beat Scotland 28-21 in a very entertaining match, before going home to spend a
very relaxing evening there.
All the photographs today are from Victoria Park and include a lovely memorial Cypress Tree that was planted on 19th July 1919 to commemorate the peace after the end of World War 1 and, almost exactly 100 years later, is now enormous!
